You may have seen these guys, mainly around the front gate. They are striking in appearance, and they aroused some curiosity. Turns out the Central California Yellow-billed Magpie is a native to this area, mainly West of the Sierras, and it won a popularity contest some years ago among bird watchers. These guys are related to crows, and they will eat almost anything, but they are vulnerable to West Nile Virus and rodent poison. They are also the inspiration for our cartoon friends Heckle and Jeckle. As assistant curator of the TT Track Wildlife Museum I have added these creatures to an exclusive list of HH fauna which includes wandering cows, mercenary goats, menacing turkeys, suicidal squirrels, and the endangered Red Sticker Riders. Thanks must go to the guys at the front gate for prompting this valuable research. Attachments:
