What does everyone think of the sharp right turn on Garcias Gulch Trail in the Renz as you start turn back south again. The right turn is very outsloped and you can see all the tracks of people overshooting it and going off trail/crashing.
I am thinking of building a retaining wall so that we can create a banked turn.

Unless there is an erosion problem, i would leave it. Technical makes you a better rider.
I would rather blow that turn the way it is rather than go over a berm/drop off.

Good point Robert, it took me awhile to master that one. The ruts that are developing right before the turn are what concern me, they'll probably only get bigger. Also, people have created a shortcut on the inside of that turn.

I still think a nice big banked turn would be cool but I think you are right Robert, no matter how big it is, there will be people that overshoot it and then have a drop off to deal with.
Due to all the shortcutting and ruts on that turn I dont feel like we should do nothing so It will probably be fixed with a re-route of some kind.

This is where we take newbies for a happy surprise , just as we were once happily surprised. When you know it's there, you just need to share.

I vote for a burm, your having to lock your breaks up on a blind and outsloped turn. there is mechanical erosion that is only going to get worse from people overshooting it. burm, retaining wall, reseed, straw, reveg. a good start to an eagle scout project.

I say leave it as is maybe add some hay bales to the inside so riders don't short cut it.

We did the re-route project yesterday as part of an Eagle Scout Project for the local Hollister Boy Scouts. Had 11 scouts show up and we pretty much finished the project. The trail is still closed because we still need to work on compacting the soil on the re-routed trail. Should open it soon. Attachments:

Are you going to leave the original route open? and make the by-pass an option?
