These trails are always a favorite of mine when riding at Hollister.
There is a section about halfway through Peat's Path that is getting very dusty and chewed up. It looks like lots of riders are getting stuck at this point and are just digging lots of holes. Normally this section is hard packed and real bumpy.
I am concerned that some riders will not be able to make it up the dusty up hill and have to turn around and go back backwards on the trail to get out.

We'll check it out either today or tomorrow. Getting compaction that far in on Petes might be difficult as we will need water at the site and some kind equipment to compact. Check back here in about a day or so I will have checked it out already and responded. Might not have too many options..

Something was done differently with the grader last time out to cause this situation. It's never been this loose and deep on this uphill that frank describes. It's sad if riders can't make it through there, they need to pay attention to the black diamond label and think twice next time.

Just checked out petes. The section in question is very sandy/silty. Its a tough section to negotiate seeing as there is a hard right and a water bar right as the section begins. In other words it really sneaks up on you.
However, I do not think that it will cause too much of a head ache for more experienced riders. It is marked black diamond after all, so I like how the sand adds to the difficulty.
It is not an ideal situation and with out doubt we'll be back there this winter working the section. Until then I believe the water bars and catch basins in place should retain a lot of the dislodged sediment.

We need to make sure this doesn't happen again. The trail is just horrible, haggard even. Railing around the corner Saturday I locked it up to avoid a yard sale of bikes everywhere and huge bottleneck of people helping people. One kid screaming "I want to go back". There are more torn-up sections further down trail too. I'd much rather ride it totally rutted and whooped out on the gas than the condition it's in right now. Peats is one of the most talked about routes in the park. It's a marque trail like no other, please no more dry season grading. I don't even want to know whats up with Okie...or Mystic

I rode the last 1/2 of Jay's way yesterday. The improved end of the trail is perfect?
