There has been some discussion among the TT regulars regarding the composition of the dirt out there. In summer drought conditions we had concrete, which retained what ever shape was left over from the rare incidence of moisture. Now in the monsoon season, we have drainage problems, which are being dealt with by means of grading. However intelligently handled, the run-off fixes will not change the fact that our TT is un-rideable when it gets the least bit wet. It is the nature of adobe soil to be as slippery as deer guts on a doorknob when it rains. Apparently, the soil applied most recently came from a catch basin in the Adobe section. It has been suggested that this might be mixed with sandstone from catch basins in the Granite section. The idea is to provide percolation in addition to run-off. Maybe not. Maybe it would be like putting sand in Portland cement, and we would just end up with much better concrete. Organic material might be helpful. And wasn't that added to the MX track? There is no shortage of opinion among the regulars, and as they say: "Everybody's got one." And I try to remind them that they pay $45 a class to ride a proper track, but only $5 at the HH gate. Good luck. Cheerio. Keep up the good work. All that sort of rot. And Happy Thanksgiving.

11:28 Very nice work. TT track is quite good, and compared to a week ago it's kind of amazing. Same goes for most of the main trails. Just as a blacksmith needs to strike while the iron is hot, HH needs to groom adobe sections while the soil is moist. Very nice work.

(Rat Pack post)
Live and learn 12-27 We got them to open the TT track at 10, and it looked perfect after two days without rain. It was.... to a depth of about an inch and a half. But Monday's heavy rain was still down underneath, so The Rat Pack closed it back up again. Thank you Rangers Rick and Jen for indulging our enthusiasm.
(Trail Watch addition) The old projections no longer apply, and I think we can expect more of the same with a wet winter in the forecast. We are back to sending out a test rider or two. And again, please consider adding coarse sandstone when ever possible
