Scuttlebutt has it that we volunteer trail watch personnel now answer to Mathew. Bon voyage and bon chance to Wes.
In any case, the health and welfare of our beloved TT track are the subject of this repetitive post. It's been about four months since this feature of the park has presented itself in adequate condition. Flat track is supposed to be flat. Instead, we have medium whoops, braking bumps, pot holes, hard pack, ledges, sand, powder, and chunks of loose clay. Not optimum.
The hard core riders are aware of drought conditions, and they appreciate that working the dirt requires it to be moist. But for four months now that hard core has dwindled down to a mere handful of die-hards. Could it be time now, with construction traffic winding down, to give attention to the oldest dedicated motorcycle feature of the Harris Ranch property?
Ideally, in the absence of the current wishful El Nino Winter to come, the track needs several days of frequent sprinkles, then a blade, a tiller, a rake, and more sprinkles. Pizza dough. Chunks be gone. Homogenized particulate architecture. Then a period of moist rising, and we roll it out. The sun will bake it, and it will last for six weeks. When the rains come it will be unrideable once again, but at least we'll have something. And it will be eminently presentable for the 40th anniversary celebration.
There is regret for such constant nagging, but no apology. It's the very definition of Trail Watch.
