The death cookies on Lower Field are starting to be broken down since 12-12, which is good; however there is a fence down along Cienaga Rd, where the hay bails have been pushed down the hill and we could not get them back into position. What's the deal with Adobe?? I dropped onto it from Middlefield had had a difficult time recognizing where I was! It was as wide as a freeway Never mind the death cookies left from grading. There is downed fencing along the ending part of Adobe. it's either going up or coming down but it wasn't in a safe condition either way. Also, what is all the dirt piled along the road at the top of Twin Hill?? Inquiring minds want to know. Since rumors are running deep about the future of that dirt, such as it is there to fill in Rancho Hill, or fill in the top of Twin, I would like to be able to say more than I have no clue. For what it's worth, based on my observations, don't count on the rains for this year. I think we are in for a long dry spell and need to plan for that scenario. ( Actually, this is my weather science background speaking, and I have my field notes to back up what I am thinking) Hollister is still always my fave place to ride!! And always will be.

Hi Cathy,
Thank you for trying to get the hay bales back into position. That spot is always getting blow out... Even with the signage.
Adobe Road was maintained via dozer last week as it is needed for ranger access in this area of the park. Multiple non-system hill climbs had cut nearly halfway into the tread in some locations making it nearly impassable for visitor services vehicles in an emergency situation. Furthermore, the active tread had formed a 'U' shaped profile preventing the road from draining. Puddled roads equal more mud and longer closure times (if rain were to ever fall again). In addition, if we are ever to be graced by rain again, the annual grass seed bank will germinate and establish on the outside of the bench cut resulting in a visually narrow road. The road itself is actually no wider than before, however it has been brushed. The bench cut for Adobe Road has always been that wide. The road simply needed a 'blank canvas' as it had been several years since it had been maintained. It is not likely that this level of maintenance will be needed again for several seasons to come.
If you recall that portion of fence felt like it was right on top of you as you traveled down that portion of Adobe Road toward Super Hill. Thank you for the notification that it had yet to be reinstalled.
The dirt piles at the top of Twin are for maintenance purposes. The dirt was removed from the Super Hill sediment basin, and as you guessed will be used to bring Twin back to grade. The remaining dirt will be used to rehabilitate Middle Field road, which has become entrenched similarly to the U shaped scenario on Adobe. The dirt will reestablish the outslope of the road.
Keep up the rain dances. And thanks for the post. I hope this answers your questions.
