Praise from the Saturday regulars! Track conditions in the last three weeks have been some of the best in their limited and age-inflicted memories. I have been directed to request that you keep up the good work. There was some discussion about mowing the grass; but as is, it might keep the dust down. And snakes have to have some place to slither, right? One young guy wants a little more lift on the jump. And three old guys say aww, it don't make no difference. Just so you know, the consensus is: Good Job!

The grass is mowed fairly regularly as that is one of the CalStar Landing pads as I am sure you know. So it should be mowed soon.

For the record: 7-28-12
With a very light attendance, we managed to break through the hard pack today. End of sweeper, outside entry to tree, low line on right hander, middle on gate. I see that Gene had the small water truck to work with today, and we are all properly grateful for the attention. It also becomes apparent that the TT track might benefit from more than one day of water at this time of year. Yes, given the small crowd, it really does not compute. Still, as an optimum, TT (Saturday) might benefit from a deep soaking Friday night, in addition to what we have now --- at least at this time of year. And even with the busted hard-pack, this park feature is about as good as most D-36 race tracks anyway. "And that's all I have to say about theyatt." Forest Gump

Here's a vintage photo that reveals how much that giant berm on the Tree corner has grown over the years. To my eyes, it used to be just a high-banked corner, where now it is a nearly vertical wall and something of a drainage trap. The berm is a lot of fun, for sure, but it leaves the low line in that corner vulnerable to becoming a mud hole. And berms in themselves 'ain't no part of Flat Track.' To restore an earlier configuration would take a little bit of dirt, and some method of keeping it from side slip. Maybe this is something we could think about.... Attachments:

11-24-2012 Two celestial observations: The deck following Tree Corner which leads to Jump, is now being shaded by the oak tree at the picnic table. Greasy surface lingers long now, following water And 2nd: The double-stacked hay bales in Gate Corner make their own shade, greasing the outside line pretty much all the way down the front straight. These are celestial phenomena, but they provide advice for the application of water. Don't know if there's any way around this... but that's the observation. Please show this to our buddy, Gene, and thank him for his good work.

I notice the flat section before the jump is draining down past the picnic table and the hay bales, and then turns left to carve a small canyon and flood the front straight. My suggestion is to divert that flow right out the gate.

1-5-13 Many thanks to Gene for rolling down some of the bumps out there. It made the best of a pretty ugly track. Naturally, there are suggestions for how to deal with the rainy season, and not just mine. Maybe these could be shared along side those regarding the vintage track. Rothwell

2-9-13 Spies have revealed photos of the work done out there. The shorter fence at the end of the front straight is great. And the risk of erosion from draining outward, between the hay bales in that same section, is both understood and appreciated. The monsoons won't last forever. Thanks for the attention.
